Brand, Identity, Seal and Monograms

BRAND.

What is brand

Brand is NOT any product

Brand is NOT a logo

 So What Is Brand?

  •  A name , term, sign, symbol, or design (or some combination thereof) used to be identify the product of one firm and to differentiate them from competitive offering.
  •  A brand is personification of a product, service or even entire company like any person a brand has a physical body
What Are the Objective?

  •  Identify the various characteristics of products.
  • Learn how companies build and manage product lines and mixes.
  • Understand how companies make better brand decisions
  • Comprehend how packaging and labeling can be used as marketing tools.

Importance of Brand

  • Having a good brand is not only for multi national companies but can be critical for even the smallest business
  • If a brand works it can convince customer and can raise he expectations connected with a business, product or service. Creating a extra value from your products or services..

As an example, let’s look at the well known IT company, Apple. Apple as a company, projects a humanistic corporate culture and a strong corporate ethic, one which is characterised by volunteerism, support of good causes & involvement in the community. These values of the business are evident throughout everything they do, from their innovative products and advertising, right through to their customer service. Apple is an emotionally humanist brand that really connects with people – when people buy or use their products or services; they feel part of the brand, like a tribe even. It is this emotional connection that creates their brand – not purely their products and a bite sized logo.

Brand is a set of perceptions and images that represent a company, product or service. While many people refer to a brand as a logo, tag line or audio jingle, a brand is actually much larger. A brand is the essence or promise of what will be delivered or experienced.

On the other hand is easy to remember brand as perceived emotional corporate image as a whole

IDENTITY

  • Who you are?
  • What you think about yourself?
  •  How you present yourself?
THIS
OR

Organization’s visual Identity

  • A name
  •  Logo
  • Website
  • Advertising
 You name it..

One major role in the ‘brand’ or ‘corporate image’ of a company is its identity.

In most cases, identity design is based around the visual devices used within a company, usually assembled within a set of guidelines. These guidelines that make up an identity usually administer how the identity is applied throughout a variety of mediums, using approved colour palettes, fonts, layouts, measurements and so forth. These guidelines ensure that the identity of the company is kept coherent, which in turn, allows the brand as a whole, to be recognizable

SEAL

What is a seal or emblem?

  •  A heraldic device or symbolic object as a distinctive badge of a nation, organization, or family.
  • A thing serving as a symbolic representation of a particular quality or concept.

A seal is a device for making an impression in wax, clay, paper, or some other medium, including an embossment on paper, and is also the impression thus made. The original purpose was to authenticate a document, a wrapper for one such as a modern envelope, or the cover of a container or package holding valuables or other objects.

Each seal has different roots
  • Independently developed
  • Awarded by organizations with differing goals
  • Different process for obtaining seal
  • Different “meaning behind each seal

The Coat of Arms of Malaysia consists of a shield guarded by two supporters as rampant tigers. The shield is topped by a crest consisting of a yellow crescent with a 14-pointed "federal star", and includes a motto, depicted as a banner, at the bottom.

  • Shield- Is primarily intended to serve as a representation of states unified under the Malaysian federation
  • Tiger- The two rampant tigers supporting the shield are traditional Malay symbols. They are retained from the earlier armorial ensign of the Federation of Malaya, and prior to that of the Federated Malay States. They symbolise strength and courage.
  • Crest and federal star- The yellow colour of the crest, a crescent and a 14-pointed federal star, symbolises the country's monarchy. The crescent also represents Islam as the official religion while the federal star represents the thirteen states and the Federal Territories of Malaysia
  • Motto- "Unity is Strength" The motto of the arms, located below the shield, consists of a banner with the phrase "Unity is Strength" (Bersekutu Bertambah Mutu)[2][3] written in both romanized Malay and Jawi.

MONOGRAMS
A design of one or more letters, usually the initials of a name, used to identify a company, publication, person, object, or idea.

A monogram is a motif made by overlapping or combining two or more letters or other graphemes to form one symbol. Monograms are often made by combining the initials of an individual or a company, used as recognizable symbols or logos.

Monogram Advantages
  • The monogram solves mnemonic and legibility issues.

Monograms Disadvantages
  • Monograms are often masquerading as logos. Generic initials, treated in a clever ways may look better on towels or glasses than on a corporate business card.

Initials woven together have very little meaning. Most monogramatic logos depend on large-scale audience contact and repeated viewing for recognition.
